Are you wondering if you should take an AP or a Dual Enrollment class? This article may help:
- Basic Information:
- Primarily for Seniors
- Students typically take English (Semester 1: Composition 1 / Semester 2: Composition 2) and may choose another class each semester.
- The State of TN provides funding for students to take at least 4 classes. This is called the Dual Enrollment Grant (DEG)
- Are Dual Enrollment level classes a good fit for you? Here are topics to consider and discuss with your family:
- Do you meet their ACT criteria?
- Do you have the time to commit? This is a higher level class so will require more time. (Are you working a lot, have other on-going responsibilities, involved in a lot of extra-curricular activities?)
- Are you able to meet deadlines without prompting from teachers?
- Do you have a strong work ethic and can work independently?
- Did you make an A or B the previous class? (IE: If you want to take DE English, did you make an A or B in your Junior English class?) You must maintain an A or B in DE classes to continue to receive the grant the following semester.
- Do you need an academic challenge or already working at an AP level in the subject of interest?
- For further questions about whether DE classes are a good fit for you, contact your School Counselor.
- Application process
- Registration process is each March/April for the following Fall semester & Oct./Nov. for the following Spring semester.
