National Honor Society (NHS)
- Application window: August/early September of each year
- Eligible grade levels: 11th & 12th graders
- Criteria to apply:
- Applications are by "invitation only"
- The NHS chapter establishes criteria for membership based upon a student's outstanding performance in the following areas:
- Leadership
Student leaders are those who are resourceful, good problem-solvers, promoters of school activities, idea-contributors, dependable, and persons who exemplify positive attitudes about life. Leadership experiences can be drawn from school or community activities while working with or for others. - Service
This quality is defined through the voluntary contributions made by a student to the school or community, done without compensation and with a positive, courteous, and enthusiastic spirit. - Scholarship
Students who have a cumulative grade point average of unweighted 3.75 meet the scholarship requirement for membership. This is the goal toward which you strive to your highest successes in your academic career. - Character
The student of good character upholds principles of morality and ethics, is cooperative, demonstrates high standards of honesty and reliability, shows courtesy, concern, and respect for others, and generally maintains a good and clean lifestyle.
- Leadership
Other clubs Each year, we have clubls. They are announced during the school day. If you have an idea about starting a club, have questions about who to contact or how to join one, see Mr. Adamson in the Learning Center who coordinates clubs each year. Sign-ups for clubs for Quarter 2 have occurred. Another round of sign-ups will occur in January. (Some will be ongoing and others that filled up will have an opportunity for new members to join then, IE: Creative Station Club.) Most will meet on Fridays during Flex.
Community
National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS)
- NSHSS is a SEPARATE national organization than NHS. They typically advertise to students through letters mailed home to students. They invite students to pay and join their organization. They are not affiliated with any schools as they operate independently.
- Their criteria is academic-based; whereas, NHS criteria is based on academics, leadership, service, and character.
